Another Finals Nail Biter for Sandy No 2 Side

Sandy No 2 Side with Skips Judy Force, David Elias, Rob Elliot and Cathy Spencer, displayed absolute tenacity in the Grand Final v Murrumbeena at the Elwood Club.

At the afternoon tea break Sandy was well down but whatever was said, eaten or drunk the team made a miraculous turn around to bring the score to 81 all at the final end, just missing out on the win with the measure on Cathy’s rink.

Which of course meant another end needed to be played!

And that was it - Murrumbeena was the victor!

Congratulations to Murrumbeena and well played to both teams.

Final Score and Pep Talk Before The Extra End

Finals Update from the Bowls Director

On Tuesday 4th March our 3rd team visited Moorabbin to battle for a position in this year’s Grand Final.  All was going well until the half time break. From there on Moorabbin slowly drew away and defeated Sandringham. (We are not sure what they had for lunch that we missed out on.) A very good effort for Peter Gleeson and his team of bowlers through the year. We wish both Moorabbin and Hampton RSL success in their Grand Final.

On Saturday 1st March our 2nd team visited South Oakleigh for a position in this year’s Grand Final. After 84 ends, normally the finish of the game, both teams were level. (WOW).  This tipped us into an additional end on all four rinks. Talk of nerves. We managed to move the scores to 78 / 76 our way.

On Saturday 8th March we bowl against Murrumbeena’s TOP TEAM (who are virtually unbeaten this season) for the flag. The GRAND FINAL is to be played at the Elsternwick Club. (19 Sandham St. Elsternwick at 1pm) To be played on grass.

After Saturday’s  GRAND FINAL game (around 5pm… Win or Lose) for an hour or so we shall be having a get together at our Club (finger Food supplied) to celebrate three of our teams making the finals this year.

All members are very welcome to attend and discuss their bad luck shots thru the season that nearly altered the outcome of their games.

Sandy No 2 Team Through to Preliminaries

Our No 2 Team had a hot contest against Hampton RSL last Saturday - hot in more ways than one - a close match and temperatures reaching near cut off point.

Both teams battled on with the decision made to keep playing without a break.

Sandringham went on to narrowly defeat Hampton RSL by 7 points.

Congratulations to both sides for their stamina and sportsmanlike play.
